I am seeing lots of his fans who are going straight to deflection.

"So, you want some Corporate Dem tied to AIPAC (yada yada) ..."

Uh, no, I just want candidates that have a pretty clean background, and are not woven from wave after wave of red flags.

Lots of pathetic and absurd whataboutism in the comments here. “Donald Trump is allowed to rape women, why can’t we have a rapist too???” Unbelievable.

I am already over him. We need female

Democratic socialists! It aggravating that he was allowed to run for so long and pick up so much steam. Theres no way it wasn’t on purpose, the establishment democrats are the fucking enemy as far as I am concerned, as bad as maga, they’re coordinated opposition, and I am sick to death of it! I want a real labor party, that represents my interests. I want both a path to upward mobility and a livable planet to leave to my child.

The “establishment” didn’t want this guy. The Pod Bros, Hasan Piker, Ro Khanna, Bernie Sanders, and numerous other people on the far left (or associated with them) put this guy front-and-center for months, sucking up all the oxygen in the room while nobody else could get a word in edgewise. The “establishment” should have found a better candidate than Mills, but they can wash their hands of this one. This is not on them.

Just stop with the revisionist history. Voters put him front and center as the dem party dialed it in thinking they could run on the least bad candidate of status quo.

Let’s not lose our minds saying establishment Dems are as bad as MAGA. I’m not a fan of establishment Dems, but come on! The Guardians of Pedophiles (GOP) are doing their best to create a fascist state. Establishment Dems just want to keep neoliberalism going. Which will be easiest to defeat in the long run?

We really need candidates with some kind of experience in politics before the senate. That is part of the problem-just vaulting people over walls that require experience to climb

May this apply to The Orange ShitStain: the cumulative hatred bringing him down.

Regardless of what happens with Platner, I see a ray of sunshine within this particular storm cloud.

Take a look at the most popular political figures in the country right now.

Top 6 most popular are liberal Democrats, or Democratic socialists. No centrist Democrats, no Republicans of any kind.

Platner may not appear on this list, but his platform does….at the top. Mainers knew from the beginning that his character was in question, but his platform is why he won his primary, with an astonishing 71% of the vote, personal issues notwithstanding.

I find that hopeful. The DemSoc movement is exploding, and the GOP knows it.

They are Trump's ‘Communists’. Why else would he and the GOP suddenly start banging this particular drum so loudly and so often?

AOC is 6th most popular, nearly tied with the top Republican, Rubio, and Kamala Harris.

You'll also notice how few straight white men there are in the top third of this list. And Rubio, a POC and son of immigrants, has the third highest 'don't know' percentages of the 7 Republicans mentioned by name….but still ranks higher than the rest.

Vance and Trump are tied, BEHIND the Republican party….and way behind Jon Ossof at #5, even though 55% of respondents admitted they knew nothing about him!!

AND they're both also ranked behind Gavin Newsom. Musk ranks even lower.

Tucker Carlson, who's been tagged as the Great White Hope of Republicans in 2028 barely made the list, and look at the percentages of people that don't know anything about him compared to the same number for AOC....and then see the wide disparity in their rankings.

Yikes, that does not speak well of Carlson and where he ranks with the people that DO know him. Conversely, it speaks well of the Democratic socialist platform that AOC, with nearly the same recognition percentage, ranks so close to the top

Added to this, the non-partisan platform http://vote.org/ reports record-breaking voter registration in the first half of 2026.

38% of those who used the platform to register, so far this year were 18-years-old, and nearly 80% were under the age of 35.

Who do you think these new young voters are going to support?

No wonder Republicans are trotting out that old dead horse of McCarthyism.

They have nothing else to offer.

And look where Dem party leaders appear on the list. They also have nothing to offer, but folks seem to recognize who does, and they're still Democrats.

As an interesting side note...my mom, a three time Trump voter....loved Bernie Sanders in 2016.

Yeah, it’s called the dem-gop party elite machine. So glad all the people concerned about women are doing their part to keep a women in power in the senate with a track record of killing them with her votes. 👏.

Nonsense. Platner had massive red flags and has to go.

Average Jane's avatar

You can try and shield yourself but there are a lot of people who have fully woken up to recognizing the hallmarks of shady behind the scenes string pulling. Gonna push your running last boy Troy Jackson again? Gonna shrug and pretend Collins continuing her free rein to kill and bankrupt Americans is Platner’s fault? I’m sure you will even believe it. You and people like you have aided and abetted the corrupt and murderous power structure running this country. You fully exposed yourself serving them the past 6 weeks. If you think you are in any way better than your vision of Platner, your mot. You have knowingly participated in keeping a woman in power who will kill and bankrupt more Americans with that power.

Can’t bothsides this. Stop trying your misogyny is showing.

He invented an entire fantasy that Platner is my candidate to distract from the actual topic I was speaking to which was the establishment history of circumventing voters to put people in place that serve them and people concerned it would happen again with the replacement of Platner. Nice job deflecting off his full on abusive behavior and gaslighting. Says a lot how much you guys are defending the party that has been shielding abusive men for a long time.

US Blues's avatar

Just admit that you’re a republican.

Average Jane's avatar

Jesus, it’s so easy to see how maga proliferated and we ended up with an abuser at the head of government and complicit enablers dominating both parties. Just admit you back that.

So Platner is held accountable while DJT gets re-elected President despite rape & countless other offenses including 34 felony charges.

I understand the frustration but if we wait for republicans to denounce depravity to do the same, we will be waiting forever.

But nobody cares about a prez whos a pedo? Maine doesn't deserve platner if they get rid of him. Sad.

Average Jane's avatar

They don’t care about women either, this will ensure a senator whose votes are killing them remains in power to kill more.
